April 2017 President Report

Karen Thompson and I attended the district 7 conference in Boise, Idaho from April 2nd thru April 5th. I learned a lot and came away feeling ready for the fight ahead. We discussed a variety of topics and shared experiences with our brothers and sisters from all across district 7. CWA strong is the new slogan for this years bargaining and organizing campaigns. We did an informational picket on two AT&T Wireless locations that was really loud and got attention from people passing by as well as customers inside the locations. There were workshops and a great dinner hosted by Nettworth Financial Group. The final day was devoted to just CenturyLink issues and electing the CenturyLink bargaining team. The four that were selected were Mike Nguyen, Mike Salazar, Greg Sherwood, and Audry Deguio. I am sure those four along with the Bargaining agents will try to get us the best contract that they can.

We are at a point now where we need to have everyone’s input real soon on what issues we are sending on to the district for them to negotiate for us. I personally feel that we need to get better language on how long the company has to discipline people and I also think Cable Maintenance should be a wage scale 1 job title because of all the different types of circuits that they work on.

I want to thank Ryan Paulson for going to Bellingham to meet with our members there on his day off.

We are just about done proof reading the IATSE contract and as soon as that is done we will be scheduling a contract explanation meeting and then it will be sent out for a vote by the membership.

MV Transportation:

Fitz, a manager at MV Transportation will no longer be working there. I hear he is retiring.
