March 2017 President Report

IATSE:

I am happy to say that we have a completed rough draft of the contract for IATSE that has been forwarded on to Ken Sather for review and then it will go out to the membership for a vote. This has been a long process and I am glad it is close to the end. I want to thank Holly Jacobs and Leah Harris for all of their hard work.

MV Transportation:

I went out and sat in on a portion of the shift bid for the shuttle side of M.V. and was amazed at how complicated the process can be. I plan to work with the management there and the stewards to streamline the process. Since the resignation of the former Area vice president we had out at MV we have been working on getting caught up on all the old grievances and staying within the timelines on the new ones. We will be having an all stewards meeting for just the M.V. stewards on Friday March 17th to make sure everyone is on the same page. I want to Thank Nancy Dee for stepping up and taking on the Area Vice President role.

CenturyLink:

I have been sitting in on a lot of investigatory meetings that CenturyLink has been doing on people. I personally believe the company still is trying to get the headcount down by terminating people. It has been that if CenturyLink gets any type of complaint they will pull your sat tool, dotlog, and gps reports for the day. If they see anything out of the normal they will pull those for the week. If they find anything else wrong in the week they will pull them for the month and if they find anything in the month they will pull the reports for three months. This has now started to happen if you have a missed commitment. Please be where you are supposed to be and doing what you are supposed to be doing. Keep a personal log of what you are doing and why you go where you go. Keep track of your breaks, if your lunch takes longer than 30 minutes keep that in your personal log so that when the company asks why you were someplace that has nothing to do with a job on your load for 38 minutes you can explain it. Last week I had a meeting and the technician was asked about jobs from January. I don’t know about any of you but I can’t remember where I had lunch last week. Please keep good notes and let me help you keep your jobs. I had an opportunity to sit down with all of the CenturyLink stewards to go over some of the reports that CenturyLink uses in the investigatory meetings so that we will all be prepared.

I want to thank Michael Lynch for his years and years of dedication and service to the union. I also want to thank him for all the work he has been doing these past few months to get me prepared for the presidency. Although I have some nervousness about taking over the presidency I am ready to fight for each and every person to the best of my ability. I look forward to the challenge and all that it entails.

I know we have a lot of work to do to get ready for bargaining and strike preparation. If anyone is interested in joining the mobilization committee please see Karen Thompson tonight.
